THE HUMBLE BEGINNING
OUR STORY
Our story began in 2018 when we planned our wedding in enchanting Labuan Bajo, Flores island, Indonesia. Faced with the challenge of sourcing high-quality beverages, we invited guests to bring Casey's artisanal beers from Perth, Australia.
Little did we know, this beautiful fusion of talents and cultures would lay the cornerstone for Bale Nagi Brewing. Inspired by our own love story and triumphs, we realised that Labuan Bajo was the perfect canvas for our venture.
At Bale Nagi Brewing, we curate an unparalleled experience, harmonising with Labuan Bajo's thriving tourism scene. We believe that exceptional beverages transcend mere taste – they carry stories and inspire everlasting memories.

It's a phrase spoken by the Lamaholot tribe,
the indigenous people of East Flores island.
It translates to "homecoming" or "pulang kampung" in Indonesian language.
For Martha, as a Lamaholot woman, this business represents much more than a venture. It is the very reason and vessel for her return – a poignant journey back to her heritage and the embrace of her ancestral roots. The significance is profound, as she weaves her cultural identity into the very fabric of our brand.
For Casey, this homecoming story takes on a different hue. It is an abstract concept, a path that leads him back to his true passion after working in a different industry. Bale Nagi Brewing became his way of rediscovering his purpose, breathing life into his aspirations, and igniting his creative spirit once more.
Together, Bale Nagi becomes our calling, a resounding invitation to return to our roots, to nurture our life purpose, and to forge a profound connection with our identity. Meet Martha
I am a dedicated Brand Strategist and Customer Experience (CX) Designer rooted in the vibrant Western Australia tourism industry. My expertise extends beyond traditional design, encompassing craft, operations, and strategy. I bring together the art of storytelling, marketing, and Human-Centered Design to create impactful experiences, including the digital realm you are currently exploring.
Being a local to this island, my purpose extends beyond business success. It is a heartfelt commitment to preserving and promoting my culture, a promise made to my grandma and ancestors. It is not merely a selling point, but a profound mission that drives me forward.
Meet Casey
I'm a Mechanical Engineer with a deep affinity for the sea. For over a decade, I've immersed myself in the world of deep sea robotics and technology, driven by a passion to explore the marine realm. When Martha introduced me to the captivating landscape of Flores, it was love at first sight.
But my love for exploration doesn't stop at the ocean's depths. I've been a craft beer enthusiast and home brewer for over 15 years, constantly honing my skills and experimenting with new recipes. Keeping up with industry trends and innovations, I enjoy sampling new beers that inspire me on my brewing journey.
